TTG MSS2 XMLer (Monoslideshow 2)
After several failed experiments, a few conversations and some research, it has come to my attention that Lightroom 2 does not support ActionScript 3. For those not in the know, ActionScript 3 is the latest and greatest in Flash scripting and it’s the very stuff of some of the best Flash galleries out there — Monoslideshow 2, Tiltviewer and more! — none of which work in Lightroom’s web module.
Thus, I am sorry to say that there will be no TTG Monoslideshow 2 until such time as Adobe imbues Lightroom with support for ActionScript 3.
But all is not lost, for I introduce to you TTG MSS2 XMLer. And yes, I named it that on purpose. Why? Because I’m snarky. And if you had to say it out loud, it would be read “TTG Monoslideshow 2 XML-errrrrrr.” Got it?
Great. “But what is it?” you’d probably like to know. TTG MSS2 XMLer is a tool used to create the XML image array and image files for use with Monoslideshow 2. It won’t configure the entire gallery for you, but it will taken the tedium out of at least that much. Combined with the Monoslideshow Interactive Demo and TTG Stage 2.0, you have the complete tool set.
TTG MSS2 XMLer is included in the download for TTG Pages 3.0 and TTG Stage 2.0, and usage instructions are self-contained. Install as usual and select the engine from your Engines list; the instructions will be displayed in the preview area. Of course, you need to supply your own purchased copy of Monoslideshow 2.
And I have created two new tutorial videos further demonstrating proper usage of TTG MSS2 XMLer.

hi, Matt,
Do you know when ActionScript3 will work in LR ?
thks
Whenever Adobe decides to make that happen.
Hi Matt,
Thanks for your great templates! I just bought TTG pages 3.0 and monoslideshow 2.0. Should they work together the same way as described above?
In the pages configuration there is still a remark that I should use TTG MonoslideshowGallery instead of the TTG MSS2 XML thingy.
I will check the forums as well but in case it is not listed there, thanks for your reply!
Grtz,
Esther
Hi EdB,
Use TTG MSS2 XMLer with Monoslideshow 2. And yes, you can use it to create galleries for your Home and About pages exactly as shown in the videos above, except the folder names will be different. TTG Pages will instruct you how to name the folders.
Cheers,
Matt
Hello,
Does monoslideshow 2 work in Lightroom Beta 3? I suspect it supports ActionScript 3. If so, how do I get it to work?
Thanks,
Jody
LR3 Beta does not support AS3.
Hi Matt,
Thanks for your answer. I have put some work in it again. Unfortunately still not working. The index.html generated by TTG Pages 3.1 refers to a directory home_monoslideshow. The TTG MSS2 XMLer documentation says I should call the directory monoslideshow. So that doesn’t work, monoslideshow is not playing, just a white box is showing.
When I rename the directory to monoslideshow in the index.html I get an error in the box where the monoslideshow should play: ‘error loading ‘monoslideshow.xml’: error #2148′
When I play the monoslideshow.swf in flash CS4 it does work with my image array coming from the monoslideshow.xml, so I don’t know where the error can be. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Esther
@EdB
The video is for setting up MSS2 with TTG Stage. The process is exactly the same for TTG Pages, except you need to name the folder “home_monoslideshow” or “about_monoslideshow” as instructed by TTG Pages.
Play the slideshow online. Monoslideshow 2 sometimes doesn’t run from your desktop, depending upon your Flash security settings.
Also, if you’ve made any manual changes to your XML file, ensure that it is properly formed according to MSS2 specifications. It should run just fine straight out of TTG MSS2 XMLer using the default styling. Once that’s confirmed, then edit the file to add your custom configuration.
Ok thanks again, will try it online then!
It Works!!! Thanks Matt.
Hi Matt,
I’m having problems with the security settings on Monoslideshow with Shadowbox. Even on a server it pops up with “If you encounter any errors loading Monoslideshow locally, please update your security settings by adding the Monoslideshow folder to the trusted locations.”
Any ideas?
Daniel
@Daniel
I’m guessing that the page being loaded isn’t finding at least one of the necessary resources that it needs. Probably not seeing the SWFObject.swf file.
Have you tried embedding the gallery using TTG Stage?
Matt,
It actually loads and runs well, it just eats up pixel space by showing that message. See http://kapitan.net/sandbox1/galleryindex.php and click on the ‘Christmas in Tershelling’ album@theturninggate
@Daniel
I see. Looks like you’re using the default index.html that comes with MSS2; not an ideal choice. Perhaps I should update TTG MSS2 XMLer so that it produces a basic index.html file to use; or maybe I will update TTG Stage so that the header can optionally be removed … ?
@theturninggate
You’re right, bit of a newbie when it comes to raw html editing …
Have solved it now, thanks. Will add standard index.html file in the lightroom gallery package like you described in your 2nd tutorial. I found that defining a flash window with relative parameters works well and is versatile enough for most purposes and ties in nicely with shadowbox.
matt,
I’m looking for the TTG MSS2 XMLer engine; I dont see it in my download of TTG Pages 3.3… Was it included in this release? is it embedded in the TTG Pages menus?
Thanks!
Should have been, but I must have lost my head when I posted the update. I’ve gone ahead and updated the distributable. I’ll email you the files.
@turninggate
I bought your plugins Pages and Stage with the added monoslideshow, great stuff. The last mentioned plugin I don’t manage to get it work.
When running on the desktop the following error occurs:
“error loading ‘monoslideshow.xml’: error #2148″
When running online the following error occurs:
“pageIndicator” is not a valid tag for navigation
Do you have an idea what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks,
Rick
There is a problem somewhere in your XML file for the gallery. It might be that you can HTML code embedding in one of your captions, or you might have introduced a syntax error somewhere in the file.
