Inconsistent Headers / Isolate Thumbnail Grid Tutorial

by theturninggate on May 31, 2009

The newly styled header appearing in the recently released TTG Highslide Gallery has been causing some controversy, and so I felt I should address it more directly. So far, I have gotten the impression that most people like the new header, but feel somewhat put out by its inconsistency with other TTG products. When implementing TTG Highslide gallery alongside templates like TTG LR Pages and TTG Auto Index to flesh out a full website, the pages fail to maintain the same look because of the differing headers.

I should first say that I fully understand the ire this has caused, and I apologize for the inconvenience to users. I do believe, however, that the new header is far improved over the old, and provides a greater amount of flexibility for design and expression in the end-product. I also feel that it is far less cluttered than the previous header, and lends itself better to a website aesthetic, as well as bringing a number of new features to the table.

Rest assured, the discrepancy is temporary. Presently, I am working on TTG Highslide Gallery 1.1, which will bring additional refinements and features to the new header. With the 1.1 release, I hope to have the new header solidified, at which point I will be able to port it over to other products. Following that release, my new priorities will be to implement the new header in TTG Auto Index and TTG LR Pages. Initially, these releases will be distributed in two versions, so that users will be able to use either the old or the new header, depending on which templates they are combining to create their sites.

While doing this, however, I will also be graduating Hallmark Institute of Photography, relocating to Texas, looking for work, trying to update TTG Shadowbox Gallery with Shadowbox 3 beta for IE8 compatibility, and working on another new web engine, entirely different from the others.

In the end, I hope you will find that your patience has been worth the wait.

In the meantime, a brief video tutorial on how to setup TTG Highslide Gallery with the old version of the header. This video is in Quicktime format. A player can be downloaded from apple.com.
